Water is the most important nutrient …

A pet fountain is a great way to give your cat fresh running water, keeps water cool and filters out impurities. * The better the water tastes, the more likely your cat is to drink it. Try adding some water from a can of tuna to enhance the flavor, or use bottled or filtered water. (I found a ceramic fountain from  Pioneer Pet  that is incredible. * Add ice cubes to your cats water bowl will stimulate some cats to explore and…drink. By adding water bowls in different locations in a room will stimulate some cats to drink. * Most cats don’t like to drink water out of a bowl. Just topping off the water bowl will stimulate some cats to drink. Wash your cat’s water bowl every day and disinfect it regularly to control bacteria. Stay away from the plastic fountains as they hold onto the bacteria and take more time to clean. Water is the most important nutrient in your cat’s body. * Keep your cat’s water bowl clean. And the most common medical recommendation is, to encourage your cat to drink more water. the ceramic fountains are easy to maintain). But when a cat loses just 10 percent of his body’s water, bodily functions shut down causing serious illness.

Best pet drinking water fountain?

I am looking for a great filtration water system for my cat and pomeranian... and am wondering where the best place would be to buy it and if there are specific ones anyone finds better? Or if any that you feel did not work well? Thank you in advance :)

There are many water fountains for cats on the market. The Drinkwell pet fountain is one such product, but there are other brands and they come in a variety of designs. Your cat may have a preference as to the function and design of her drinking fountain. Choose carefully so that your cat won't turn up her nose at the fountain and never use it. If your cat likes to drink from a dripping faucet, a drinking fountain may be a good product to try. 1 Observe your cat, paying particular attention to your cat's drinking behavior. If your cat is fascinated by moving or dripping water, or demonstrates a preference for drinking from the faucet, she may like a cat drinking fountain. 2 Visit the various pet supply outlets online or in person. Look for a drinking fountain that is easily cleaned, has a removable filter and will be easy to wipe off when stained with hard water deposits. 3 Select a Drinkwell 360 if you have more than one cat. The 360 has a fountain that flows into a circular dish so that several cats (or small dogs) can drink from the dish simultaneously. 4 Purchase a Pioneer fountain if you are concerned with aesthetics. This is a ceramic fountain with a bubble-up design that will add a little elegance to your kitchen. If you are looking for a product that is more than just functional, this little fountain will add a touch of feng-shui. 5 Make sure the fountain you purchase comes with a charcoal filter so as to filter out harmful chemicals and that chlorine taste in so many city water providers. This will also keep water deposits out of the inner workings of the fountain.

Can anyone recommend a replacement pump for my Pioneer pet fountain?

Greetings; I have purchased the PioneerPet "BigMax" ceramic pet fountain and while I am happy with the ceramic unit, the pump emits a lout buzzing noise no matter what position it is in. Amazon seems to sell a variety of small water pumps, can anyone recommend a model that is as quiet as possible and would fit in my fountain's filter assembly? Thanks!

http://www.pioneerpet.com/CategoryProduc tList.jsp?cat=Fountains+and+Feeders& offset=12 - there are two pumps for sale but no pictures. However, I'd go to customer service tab and call or e-mail them.

The Four Filters Invention of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger

Creator: Bud Labitan | Business & Economics - 2008

Labitan examines what he calls the "Behavioral Finance Formula" of Buffett and Munger, used to eliminate many inferior investing prospects and find high-quality winning investments.

Publisher: Lulu.com

About this book
"The Four Filters Invention of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger" examines each of the basic steps they perform in "framing and making" an investment decision. This book is a focused look into this amazing invention within "Behavioral Finance." The genius of Buffett and Munger's parsimonious four filters process was to "capture all the important stakeholders" in a "multi-variable" equation or formula. Imagine...Products, Enduring Customers, Managers, and Margin-of-Safety... all in one mixed "qual + quant" formula. Other important ideas are embedded in each chapter. The book can be used as a supplemental textbook in a Valuation or Decision Sciences course.

Finding Florida

Creator: T. D. Allman | History - 2013-03-05

However, the remarkable story of Florida has been distorted and whitewashed.

Publisher: Grove Press

About this book
Over its long history, Florida has been many things: a native realm protected by geography; a wilderness that ruined Spanish conquistadors; a place to start over; "god's waiting room." With a native population as high as 900,000 (who all died), it became a pestilential backwater with a few thousand inhabitants, but today is our fourth most populous state, with nineteen million. The site of vicious racial violence, including massacres, slavery, and the roll-back of Reconstruction, Florida is now one of our most diverse states, a dynamic multicultural place with an essential role in 21st century America. However, the remarkable story of Florida has been distorted and whitewashed. In Finding Florida: The True History of the Sunshine State, journalist T.D. Allman reclaims this remarkable history from the mythologizers, apologists, and boosters. Allman traces the discovery, exploration, and settlement of Florida, its transformation from a swamp to a paradise. Palm Beach, Key West, Miami, Tampa, and Orlando boomed, fortunes were won and lost, land was stolen and flipped, and millions arrived. The product of a decade of research and writing, Finding Florida is a highly original, stylish, and masterful work, the first modern comprehensive history of this fascinating place.

    Filters water? Check!

0 5/5 M.T. (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) What can I say? These filters do their job - they keep the water clean! We don't even change them as much as we probably should. The directions say to change them every 2-4 weeks. We have 2 cats and change them every 4-6 weeks. We could probably extend them even longer too, but decided not to push it.To extend the life of the filters, we run them under cold water every week (when we clean the fountain). The Amazon price is pretty good too! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 23, 2011

    Like a Zen Fountain

Our cats' food and water are in my work room at home and I've had a blue plastic Drinkwell roaring along in there for years (it has certainly served us well as one of our cats will only drink running water). I was so tired of cleaning the Drinkwell with all it's nooks and crannies so this one looked pretty good when I ran across it. It is really lovely, very, simple and elegant and is so, so quiet. It's like having a little zen fountain and the water stays very cool. Be warned, it is half again larger than a Drinkwell and a little heavy when full so it's difficult to carry to a sink to be emptied or cleaned without spilling a lot of water. We solved this by taking a big bowl (or you could take a small bucket) to the fountain, we pour out the water right there, then everything else is easy. This is a wonderful fountain both functionally and aesthetically. I guess most importantly, I left both fountains running next to each other for the first week, by the end of the week the new... 5/5 Celia (New Orleans LA) - See all my reviews, September 18, 2010

I also would suggest taking advantage of the ability to buy multiples you wont save on the cost of the product itself but you will save on shipping charges which will only go up due to the struggling economy and rise in energy costs. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 18, 2011

WARNING: Make sure you change filters as suggested.

I agree with the other reviewers about the benefits of using filtered water to increase the life of these filters. When you empty the fountain to clean it, I found it best to just take out the filter and give it a quick rinse too. I completely clean the bowl and filter once a week. I rinse the filter under warm water and have replaced it every 6 - 8 weeks. I begin to notice a slight film in the bowl, or the filter just begins to look old at about that time. It does capture any floaters in the water, in my case mainly cat hair and tiny cat food debris. The fountain was an instant hit with all of our cats. Two drink from the top fountain and the other three drink more from the bowl. They all go for the fountain water and no longer use their old water bowl at all. I believe these filters are part of the reason why they are loving the pet fountain itself, the other reason being the unique mini waterfall effect. This fountain and the filters have proven to be a great find... 3/5 seanyman's mom (Northwestern PA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Fountain for Caring Pet Keepers

I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to help increase the amount of water their pet drinks. It is an excellent system, very easy to clean, and stylish. It is not a replacement for good hygienic care of your pet's drinking bowl.We have 2 dogs (with long hair) and 3 cats. They all drink out of the Pioneer Pet Fountain.I have found that the fountains filters last longer than advertised. I use reverse osmosis filtered water. However, I do clean the fountain completely every 2 to 3 days. It is a very easy system to maintain so this is hardly much more effort than washing a bowl. That is the real advantage of this system besides its good looks. The point of the fountain is to encourage the animals to drink more water. This it has done very well with all of our pets. It is not necessarily to simplify the pet keepers life by not having to clean a drinking bowl. The filters are to help remove particulates from the water and help prolong the life of the... 5/5 Suzan Matos "Designer" (PA USA) - See all my reviews, November 6, 2011

    Replacement Filters for Plastic Fountains

0 3/5 Sunshine in Zhills "Mom_2_Six" (Zephyrhills, FL United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pioneer Pet Replacement Filters for Plastic Fountains (Misc.) This is the first water fountain I have ever purchased so I can't compare it to anything else. The filters must be working ok as they sure get dirty in a short period of time. I don't like the fact that they need changing quite so often. I thought I could get a few weeks out of one filter but they do need to be changed quite frequently which adds to the expense of the water fountain. I will check around town to see if I can find them locally. The first filter lasted only two weeks. This just might end up being a very expensive water fountain. Also, the pump is noisier than I thought it would be. My two adult cats were intimidated by the noise at first, but they finally got brave enough to approach it. They now drink from it. There isn't a fill-line on the water bowl. I am not sure just how full it should be. I might add, I am on well water and live in Florida. That may have something to do with the frequency of the filter change. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 23, 2013

    This is a winner!

I purchased this fountain for my cat, Willie, who is going to be 20 years old this month. He is unbelievably healthy for his age but does have CRF. Because he should drink as much water as he can and loves it from the faucet, I thought this would be the perfect solution. Well . . . it still could be. It's been operational for 10 days and I've seen him actually enjoy a refreshing drink from it twice. Since I'm not watching him every minute, a few kitty licks could go unnoticed. It took some time for him to figure out that the object on the floor was for him, that it was a source of water, and that there is more than one way to capture his drink. He seems to prefer the water at the source where it bubbles up or as it runs down the little ramp toward the bowl. The fountain runs very quietly. Willie does not hear well anymore but if he did, I don't think the pump noise would concern him. There is one suggestion I do have, however, when you're preparing this... 5/5 P. she's finally drinking water! super easy to keep clean.

I was getting really worried about my cat, Zoe, as her water bowl did not appear to be getting any action. Ad this to the fact that Zoe would literally LEAP the moment any faucet would turn on, I was very concerned about her being at risk for a urinary infection. It's not at all sensible to keep the taps running all day for her, so this was a fantastic buy! It's about the same cost as all the other kitty fountains out there, but I feel it is hands down the prettiest out there. I was really attracted to the black ceramic fountain, and probably would have gotten that one if it wasn't back ordered. That said, the steel fountain looks really slick on my bamboo floors.Zoe immediately took the fountain (though she played with it a lot in the first few days, that calmed once she got used to it and there are no more puddles on the floor!). She loves drinking right out of the fountain, but she also likes licking the water right off the incline as well. Great Pet Fountain - Filter can be reused

I searched around for a stainless steel pet fountain for our two cats and puppy. The cats had been drinking a lot from our bathroom faucet, so they really like flowing water. The Pioneer Pet Rain Drop Pet Fountain is sized reasonably, the water flows down the ramp and into the "still water" area, and is very quiet. Our cats drink from both the sill area as well as the top of the water flow. Our puppy loves to drink the water as it falls down the ramp.A huge positive in my opinion is that I have been re-using the filter by refilling it myself. The filter casing is plastic and is in two halves that fit together. You can carefully separate the filter top and bottom(it has small plastic posts on one side that fit into holes on the other side of the filter casing)and dump out the old filter floss and activated carbon. Then go to a pet supply store and buy a bag of floss and activated carbon, I fill up one side with the carbon, then put some filter floss on top and rejoin the... 5/5 Christopher Czernel (Holland, Mi) - See all my reviews, June 12, 2010

    So easy to clean!

I have 3 cats and needed a fountain that was large enough (esp when I have to be away from the house for a couple of days). I used to have one of those plastic ones with a large water reservoir. These plastic fountains were so difficult to clean that I just had to keep replacing them after a while. Lately, the 2 cats that were drinking from the plastic fountain developed feline acne. That is when I researched a better alternative and found this stainless steel one. I was concerned that the water level would affect the proper functioning of the pump very quickly - not so! It really takes 4-7 days before I need to add water. I cleaned the fountain twice so far and each time it was a breeze. I was able to remove sediments (where the cats lick the bowl) very easily. This fountain is really silent! The water falling from the side is just perfect - enough flow so that they want to drink but not too much that it scares them away - my 3rd cat who is quite shy took a liking in this fountain... 5/5 Judith Bourgeois (Uvalde, TX United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Drinkwell vs. Pioneer's Big Max

I have used Drinkwell fountains for YEARS. However, the plastic was a battleground for bacteria and I found I had to replace those fountains at least once a year (the motors burned out). Drinkwells were comparatively loud and had a lifespan that was far too short for my household (3 cats and two dogs). I recently purchased the Pioneer Big Max with relatively low expectations. The first thing I noticed was that THIS fountain was incredibly easy to put together and clean. I never realized how time consuming the Drinkwell cleanings were until I used the Pioneer. I read the directions, cleaned and put this thing together in less than 10 minutes. The cats and dogs all like it. The cats are fascinated by the constantly moving water (it looks like a little pond with a gentle waterfall that moves the ENTIRE pond) and the dogs just like the fresh water. Junk

Despite the reviews about the pump breaking, I decided to purchase the fountain based on the fact that the company posted that the chance of getting a defective pump was quite low, and based on the high price of other stainless fountains. It worked great and looked great for about 3 days. Then the pump stopped working. I called the manufacturer for the pump to get a replacement one. Before I even said anything, he gave me this speech about how they figured out the pumps weren't defective and it that the problem was the customers not installing the pump property. For the Neat Freak!

This is my 3rd Raindrop Fountain - not because they haven't worked, but because I couldn't settle on the style I/my kittens liked best. I started with the black ceramic, but it made finding bits of kibble difficult so I gave it away when the stainless steel version arrived. That version was light weight, but the hard water in Dallas left white deposits that I couldn't get to come off - for me, it needed to look shiny and new - for my little boy kitten, it needed to withstand his putting his metal springs in it... the top portion turned out to be too light and I woke up one morning to a water incident that left the fountain almost out of water, the top part akimbo, and a nice lagoon under the fountain and food bowl. Thankfully I had just switched the may to one that absorbed, so the drama was minimized. I decided I needed to go back to the weight of the ceramic... and stumbled across the white version. SUCCESS! It stays clean looking - I can quickly spot swimming kibble - and... 5/5 Laura C. Dowling - See all my reviews, January 30, 2012

    Goes perfect with hummus!

I'll keep the review part of this short to make room for the modification... Basically this works great. My cats both drank out of it right away although the older one was a little timid for a few days. Now they both drink quite a bit more water which was the goal. We always feed dry food, canned only comes out once a month or less unless they're sick and need coaxing to eat. With a dry diet they need to have access to lots of water and be encouraged to drink, this product does that.---The Cons: Some water noise and a very small amount of splash over the edge. Enough that I'd put it on a plastic tray if I didn't do the below modification.---The Mod: This mod will cost about $3 and fix both the noise and the splashing. Order this fountain and then go out and buy some Sabra hummus, eat and enjoy, retain lid. (google image search Sabra Hummus) Once you're done take some scissors and cut the lid along the "wave" in the label, discarding the part of the lid with... 4/5 D. I want to love it, but...

I bought this beautiful ceramic pet drinking fountain to replace the plastic one that I have had for the last year or so. While I was happy with the low noise level and water capacity of my plastic one, I was grossed out by how slimy and grimy it would get and felt that I wasn't able to keep it as clean as I would like. I decided to go with the Pioneer Pet Ceramic Raindrop Pet Drinking Fountain in white because I liked the aesthetically pleasing style and knew that the ceramic surfaces would be much easier to clean and sanitize. I've had it running for about two weeks now, and I am still not entirely convinced that this is the ultimate fountain for my two adult kitties...Pros:-As I mentioned, the ceramic makes it very easy to clean and sanitize. The ceramic fountain and bowl comes apart in two pieces that can easily be put in the dishwasher.-Aesthetically pleasing, zen like style. No monstrous plastic fountain taking up your floor space!-My cats took to... 3/5 Val-El - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Beautiful, quiet, and easy to clean fountain

This is the first time I've bought a fountain for my cat, and I've done quite a bit of research on them. Though there isnt much information about this fountain online compared to the drinkwell and petmate fountains, I went for this one after seeing what the insides of the other fountains looked like. I wanted to write this review in amazon so others can get a bit more information so they can make an informed choice. The main advantages that this fountain has over others are:1. It's CERAMIC. No scratches in the plastic leading to bacteria. No allergies to the plastic, which some cats get.2. QUIET PUMP. The pump is absolutely silent. There are three settings on the pump and the first one gives no sounds whatsoever. I have it set on the second setting to get the sound of trickling water. The pump is still quet.3. EASY TO CLEAN. This was the main reason I got this one. The Drinkwell and petmate fountains requires disassembly and cleaning with special brushes... 5/5 MsChemie (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Pioneer Pet 6022 Ceramic Drinking Fountain, Raindrop Design (Misc.) Better than most

I recently ordered one of these ceramic water fountains and really like it. It is easy to assemble, its quiet, my two cats immediately went for it. It definitely stays cleaner than Drinkwell. The only drawbacks to this fountain is that it does have to be refilled almost daily and you really have to watch that the top portion is placed correctly on the bowl otherwise, the water will go all over the floor. My cats are bad about putting their paw in the bowl and moving the top piece thus draining the bowl on the floor. So, I would not keep this connected if I were going out of town overnight and not able to check the bowl.I really love the ceramic though. Its great, and not as harsh as the plastic fountains. This is a major step in the right direction, but could use a few improvements in design to keep that top piece from moving just slightly to where the water spills all over the floor. This is an addendum to my original review of this product... 2/5 Marva Mason (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews, July 9, 2010

Great Alternative to plastic Pet Fountains

Let me first start with the fact that pet fountains in general are much healthier for your pets than standing water. If you are like me and don't change out your pets water daily, fountains are a must since they help constantly filter water and minimize bacteria and mold from the water. Plus, I hate the taste of tap water, why shouldn't I expect my cats to also find it less than desirable.I have owned several different types of pet fountains pretty much since they came out over 10 years ago. And anyone who owns pet fountains knows one of the biggest pains is cleaning them. The major two leaders in the market the Drinkwell and Petmate Fresh Flow seem to dominate the market making finding filters easy. They are great, personally I found the Petmate's quieter than the Drinkwell, that and the cats seem to prefer drinking the water pouring down the slope design of the Petmate than the water tricking down the spout of the Drinkwell. The Drinkwell also didn't last as long as... 4/5 Kindle Customer (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews This review is from: Pioneer Pet 6022 Ceramic Drinking Fountain, Raindrop Design (Misc.) Great for my Cats, but ...

I have 5 indoor cats. I purchased this ceramic fountain last month and placed it in front of my fireplace (on the bricks) in my main family room (that's where the cats like their water for whatever reason). The product is GREAT, and the cats definitely drink more and seem to LOVE this much better than their plain water dish. They drink from the top (where it bubbles), and some drink from where the water falls, then also from the bottom of the dish. It's like a kitty entertainment center too -- sometimes, they just like to sit and watch the water bubble and flow. They do drink a LOT more water though, which is good for them. And, all 5 cats use it.The ONLY problem for me is that I have to take it apart and clean it about 3 times a week because of dirt and cat hair. Also, it's larger than I thought and therefore quite heavy because of the ceramic. But I purchased the ceramic vs the stainless steel so they cannot move the top portion of the fountain away from the pump... 4/5 Janice805 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Our cats love, love, love their water fountain. They're drinking more water than they ever have. No complaints! Wish we had one of these years ago. The filter is doing great and I change the water once a week. Placed the fountain on a place mat that was not being used so that holds down the noise. Now it's just a little white noise that is very comforting. Thanks so much! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 4, 2012
