DOG CAMPING: THE ART OF OUTDOOR ADVENTURE WITH CANINES

Since the last thing you want to lug around is a clunky oversized dog food bowl, try the  Outward Hound Port-A-Bowl  as an alternative. Our collapsible Port-A-Bowls tuck easily into backpacks and pockets, making it easy to dispense food and water on your camping trip. BOWLS AND FOOD STORAGE. Why you should get one: backpacks for dogs allow pet parents to lighten their own loads while giving their dogs a job to do. Our canine companions enjoy being included in the “work” of carrying gear, food, and water. DOG CAMPING 101 Ah, the joy of camping with your dog. While you’re narrowing your list, take a look at  this article  on the top ten dog friendly campgrounds in the US. This should give you a good starting point for planning your next dog camping adventure. DOG FRIENDLY CAMPGROUNDS The first step in your dog camping journey is choosing a proper destination. Any dog camping trip will naturally include some dog hiking as well. If you prefer to keep your hands free while hiking around with your dog, you might try out the  Outward Hound Hands Free Hipster  (1). So what’s a dog lover to do. Fortunately, there are various resources online that make finding dog friendly campgrounds a breeze. If your dog is smaller, and you’re more concerned with keeping your pup secure, consider the  Outward Hound Booster Seat. Outdoor water sources can contain harmful bacteria and disease, and it’s never safe to let dogs drink from them. DOG CAMPING GEAR You pack a variety of essentials for yourself when you go camping, but what about your furry friend.   Outward Hound Backpacks  feature removable saddlebag compartments (1), reflective strips to increase visibility in wild places (2), and zippered mesh pockets (3). You might consider investing in an  Outward Hound Front Seat Barrier. For carrying food, try the  Outward Hound PFAT Bag. By creating a barrier between the front and back seat areas, the Front Seat Barrier prevents dogs from climbing onto the center console during a drive. It easily attaches to your car’s seat (1), features an interior safety strap that attaches to your dog’s harness (2), and provides added comfort with its padded back rest (3). A good leash is essential to ensuring your pup is safe while dog camping. Hopefully these tips and recommendations will ensure that your next dog camping trip is safe and comfortable. If you’re serious about getting into dog camping, here’s a few tips for planning for your next trek. Once the leash is attached, you can enjoy hands-free comfort for the remainder your trek with your dog safely secured to your waist. Equipping your dog with proper outdoor attire and accessories can go a long way toward making your next adventure safe, fun, and a little bit easier. It’s a fanny pack for furry friends with dual d-ring (4) attachments for your dog’s leash.

Good Dog Exercises Anyone ?

i have a 8 month old pitbull and when she turns two yrs old i want to start training her for weight pull. right now i just walk her and run her in a field (fetch) because i dont want to mess up the bone development mainly the hips, is there anything else safe to do now and what should i start doing when shes two? when she turned two i was going to buy a pulling harness a old tire and some cinder blocks but what are some other suggestions.

Until she is 18 mo. old, she should not be conditioned, but she should get a lot of playtime (fetch, chase, running after a boomer ball, or just running in the field), a lot of activity (such as obedience training or playing with toys that dispense food), and maybe a bit of moderate exercise. Those walks are very important for her socialization at this time so that she learns how to behave in as many situations as possible. So are any opportunities to play with another dog. Hurdles and A-frames provide good, enjoyable exercise for pits. I combine fetch with hurdle-jumping by throwing a toy over a hurdle; the dog jumps over, retrieves the toy, and then jumps back over the hurdle. I made a hurdle by simply laying a six-foot board between the bottom rungs of sawhorses. Cinderblocks, lawn chairs, buckets, or other household items could be used for side supports as well. Hydrotherapy would be great if you have access to a pool. And then there are flirt poles and spring poles which *really* work your pit. I've never made a spring pole, and the dog should probably be fully-grown to use one, but the flirt pole -- we do that on a regular basis. A young dog can chase a flirt pole and do moderate jumping. The flirt pole also makes a good lure to entice the dog to jump over hurdles, cross an A-frame, etc. http://www.cosmos-staffords.co.uk/Traini ng/training.html http://www.ukcpitbull.com/encyclopedia/t iki-index.php?page=Agility+Training P.S. I almost forgot -- a doggy backpack with weights. I load my dog's pack with a 1/2 liter bottle of chilled water in each side pocket. I attach a collapsible bowl as well and, in addition to the exercise, midway through the walk he gets a cool drink of water. The pack is like this one: http://www.amazon.com/MEDIUM-Outward-Hou nd-Quick-Release-Backpack/dp/B000MKFQ5W

Teach your dog dog tricks too. Dog Tricks: 1. Shake paw When you feel it's time to teach your dogs tricks, the easiest one to start off with is to "shake paw". Tell your dog to sit first. Just take your dog's paw (either one but choose only one) and place it in your hand and give it a small shake. Then say "shake paw" and immediately praise, pat your dog, reward it. Do this 5 times in a row to reinforce the lesson. In fact reinforcement is the best way how to teach a dog tricks. Remember to use the same paw and your same hand. Repeat this lesson 4 times within a day until your dog gets it and does it without you having to pick up its paw. When you teach dog tricks, reinforcement is very important. 2. Play dead Now, it's time to teach your dogs tricks that are slightly more advanced. In this case "play dead". Get your dog to lie down. Sit next to your dog and roll him/her on its side. Say "play dead" after this action. Once your dog learns to do this, praise, pat and reward it. Again, you want to do 5 repeats 4 times a day to reinforce the lesson. Don't forget, reinforcement is the best way how to teach a dog tricks. 3. Crawl Finally, if you want to teach your dogs tricks, there's no better one to look at than the "crawl". Have your dog lie down on its front. Tell it to stay. Next sit yourself a few inches away, Making sure your hands are close to the floor, signal to your dog to come towards you and say "crawl, crawl". Remember to praise, pat and reward him or her when it crawls forward. Shake Hands Start by having your dog sit. Say, "Shake hands," and take his paw with your hand. Hold his paw and say, "Good dog!" Let go of his paw. Do this a few times every day.

    Great for trips!

0 5/5 DaiToday "Dai" (Concord, NC) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Kyjen 2482 Port-A-Bowl Collapsible Travel Dog Food Bowl Water Bowl, Large, Blue (Misc.) This is great for travelling. Some reviewers misunderstood the purpose of the collapsing bowl. It's for TEMPORARY watering of your pets...not for holding water all day long. Put water in it on stops with the dog, let dog drink what it will, dump out excess water, collapse and put away bowl, and travel along again. Repeat at next watering stop. If you want something that holds water ALL DAY, then get the solid bowls that don't collapse. It's really that simple, folks...really. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 13, 2012

    Very Pleased

Initially, I bought this to tuck into my pup's backpack for trips to our local dog park. Our park is outside city limits, so no doggy water fountains or water spigots. After a romp in the park on a particulary hot day, I put both dogs in the back of my Honda CR-V with the bowl filled with water. Then I ran up front to start the car and run the AC.At some point it occured to me this little bowl was just a bit wider at the bottom, with a slightly more narrow opening. It's bottom heavy, it probably won't tip over if I start toward home. We rode through small towns with stop lights, around hair pin turns and over steep hills; and sure enough, it didn't tip over. At least a thousand miles in rides to the park later, it still hasn't tipped over. Running the ac can't cool off the entire car on 90 degree days, having the ability to put water in the back for my dogs really opens up the range of our travels. Anymore, going anywhere without our Kyjen bowl and a gallon of ice water... 5/5 K. Miller - See all my reviews, September 8, 2012

    Great Value

0 5/5 Amy Starr (Lynn, MA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Kyjen 2482 Port-A-Bowl Collapsible Travel Dog Food Bowl Water Bowl, Large, Blue (Misc.) This is a very well made, light-weight product that conveniently folds up for travel. As a bonus, it's much less expensive than similar bowls that I've seen in local stores. Initially, I was concerned that the 48 ounce size would be too big, but it isn't. I'll mainly be using this item for water when my dog and I are out on trips. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 14, 2012
